Racists Aren’t Monsters
We live in a monster culture. When we talk about Hitler we talk about what a racist monster he was because who else but a monster could do what he did? When we talk about David Duke it’s knowing that as the head of the KKK, he’s a monster who works at recruiting other monsters. Right now we’re talking about Tucker Carlson because all the racist and sexist things he said under a pseudonym in an online forum are coming to light – what a monster. We all knew he was, just look at the things he said under his real name. Monster. We look at these people and think, Only…

5 Truths About Guys Who Are ‘Taking Care Of Their Parents’
I’ve been there. I know it’s embarrassing to admit that you’ve hit adulthood and can’t quite make it and have to move back home with mom and dad. Nothing sucks quite so hard as living in your childhood bedroom as an adult, looking around at all your weird posters and knick-knacks and things that were suchabigdeal back in the day, and realizing just how truly lame you used to be (and maybe still are). Every bit of it is awful. Maybe it happens because you’re right out of college, and the job market isn’t as open to people with BAs in History as you thought it’d be. Maybe switching majors three…

Dude, Your Girl Is Effed
Searching through online dating sites, one of the things that always struck me was how many men are looking for women with no baggage. Like, they can forgive other things: their height, weight, whether or not they like ferrets, who they vote for in elections, or if she even votes at all… but, not baggage. These are grown men, mind. These are not twenty-somethings looking for other twenty-somethings to start a life with and hoping to find some sweet young thing. No, these are grown-ass, divorced, overweight, balding, living with their parents, smoking weed they bought off their kid’s teenage friend – men. Dating sites suck. I mean, they just…

Second Chances After Incarceration Shouldn’t Come With Asterisks
Today I read about a privately owned prison in Estancia, NM that closed its doors because it demanded the state and federal government send them 300 more inmates, and the demands weren’t met. The idea that we’ve gotten to a place in this country where we want MORE prisoners is unconscionable and sad. And something that more of us should think about. Why? Because 1 in 10 people are incarcerated at some point in their lifetime. Because at some point each and every person that we’ve ‘thrown’ into prison is going to come out. They’re going to need a job. A house. A way to start life again. And yet, often times…

Committing Suicide Is The Most Selfish Thing A Person Can Do
In the wake of Chester Bennington’s death, many of us are overwhelmed and confused. The sadness and grief we’re hearing from our friends and loved ones who felt a connection with Linkin Park’s frontman is overwhelming. Those who never expressed their personal suicidal history before are expressing it now and it’s been truly eye-opening. When Chester Bennington committed suicide, he left behind six children, a wife, and millions of fans who are all struggling with their grief now. Same with Chris Cornell when he passed away back in May. And Robin Williams? Will any of us truly be able to move past losing Robin? I’m not sure. As someone who…

To The Mommy Blogger Who Is Upset People Are Upset About Her Bigoted Post: Get Off The Cross, We Need The Wood
I didn’t want to judge. When I first heard that This Modest Mom posted about how she and her family canceled their $6000 Disney vacation because of the moment of gay revelation in the upcoming Disney live action film Beauty and the Beast, I felt bad. The site was down from the influx of negative traffic and in my head I thought, “Oh, you poor newbie blogger…you had no idea what you were doing, did you?” Today the site came back up and I finally got to read the post and I no longer feel bad. I fact, I think she knew exactly what she was doing, and it wasn’t…
